About Patrick Hespen.
Cars formed the bookends to Patrick Hespen’s all-too-brief life. He was born in 1978 into a car family – his dad sold Volkswagens in Cleveland – and Patrick grew up tinkering with engines. He was in the military and served in the Middle East before getting his dream job working in the auto industry, first with Audi and then as a communications manager with Ford and then Fiat Chrysler. It was especially in these last two roles where Patrick’s effervescent personality, encyclopedic knowledge of cars and his incredible work ethic – he’d help anybody at anytime – attracted hundreds of new friends. Patrick, who maintained his lifelong passion for Volkswagens, passed away in December from a rare form of bile duct cancer. At his funeral, automakers set aside their rivalries and honored Patrick with 2,100 horsepower salute of revving engines. We honor Patrick and keep his friendship alive with the first Hespen Rally to combat Bile Duct Cancer.
Patrick loved cars. Patrick loved road trips. He had a passion for everything automotive. This rally honors and pays tribute for Patrick’s love of being behind the wheel
